The creator of the Timex timepieces has indeed captured the ruggedness of the classic military watch in this new range of Timex timepieces. However, it is interesting to note that much of the designs and elements included in this new masterpiece does not have bear much resemblance to the 1940’s military watch at all. In fact it resembles the civilian range Timex watches of the 1950 and 60’s.
The Look of the Timex Military Watch
The face of the watch is given a distressed look so it appears worn along with time. It features a bright red second hand which gives it a unique and appealing look. It has a nylon strap available in a number of different colors to match the preference of the wearer. The body of the watch features a stainless steel case.
While some may feel a certain attraction to this vintage looking watch, it should be noted that the military watches of the 1940’s have nothing to do with the look of the Timex military watch at all. The shape of the body, he straps and even the numbers are totally different from what you could expect from a classical 1940’s military watch.
A Marketing Ploy?

It can be assumed that the 1940’s date can be attributed to the marketing department’s attempt to create even more prestige and value to this new timepiece by linking its creation to the romance of the 1940’s era. That was s a time when the American Military was viewed as the ultimate heroes who viewed the world from further destruction and occupation during the World War 2. Even though the watch bears a striking similarity to the civilian watches of the 150’s and 60’s, it is clear that the designers and manufactures want it to be associated with the previous era. This is probably done with the expectations that it would provide even more value to the watch if it is lined to the Era of the 1940’s.
From a historical standpoint, it is safe to assume that the design and the facts given are highly inaccurate where the Timex Military watch is concerned. There is another very interesting aspect of the watch which makes it even more questionable.
The Straps
If you should look closely at a Timex military watch and scrutinize the straps, it is apparent that the straps resemble what is called as the old British G10 pattern. This is the design collectors refer to as the “NATO” strap. This can appear classical and fashionable but it is totally out of place in a 1940’s American military watch! It is suitable when looking at the functional purposes but the design and the pattern used is very British.
The G10 pattern is quite common in other types of classical watch but it certainly does not reflect the original design of the 1940’s American military watch.
Conclusion
The Timex military watch certainly add its own string of admirers and buyers but may be enthralled to possess something that reminds them of the Great Era of the 1940’s when the American military was revered as the saviors of the oppressed nations. Perhaps this is the reason the Timex watch is labeled as the classic 1940’s Military watch when in reality is doesn’t bear much resemblance to the military watches from that era at all.
